@jcs We Build Networks is a nonprofit just getting off the ground. We run OBSD on second-hand gear.
Because we think access issues can be found at the root of many #privacy issues, we work to be a vehicle for broader access to noncommercial colocated network resources, including not only access to equipment, but the knowledge to use it, and the communities to support it.

- run B9-LUG, the BSD, Plan 9, and Linux User Group;
- do outreach---recently we implemented RFC 4824 at our fair booth, sending frames by hand across a grassy field;
- partner with a local high school to give students hands-on experiences with real networks, from building cables to configuring application services;
- host stuff (including this masto instance, a searX instance, matrix, nextcloud)
- host other people's VMs and (soon) baremetal servers

@jcs NetBSD is trying to raise $50k for 2026 and is at $12.6k now. Not sure they count as small but compared to the other BSDs and Linux it's a small amount.
