I purchased a cheap 30Gb iPod Video (5.5-generation, the last of the iPod classic models with a Wolfson DAC), replaced the battery, and swapped out the 30Gb spinning hard drive for a CF/SD card reader and a 128Gb CF card. The iPod is now lighter, faster, has no moving parts, and has 4 times the capacity.
