So, how do these rate stiffness wise? Are these inlay-soles or connected to the outer? I'm thinking to use these with spd pedals, so some stiffness is appreciated.

they're connected to the outer layer. they are quite a bit stiffer than normal gym shoes; enough that walking in them feels kind of weird because there's so little flex.
