it's now 5:57 and i'm wide awake. last night dave and i tried to find somewhere to eat food but couldn't catch the bus because we're stupid tourists, so we just went back to the hotel and bought a bunch of beer in the lobby and i ordered lasagna to our room.

i woke up this morning at like 3:00 and we've been watching cnn the whole time because it's one of two channels here that are in english. cnn keeps playing the same stories over and over again.

i finally sacked up and paid money to use the wireless internet here. i went to their website and the payment form wouldn't work due to some fucked up html that apparently firefox didn't like. i had to edit the html inline and fix it just so i could submit the form, and as soon as i paid, the wireless signal dropped.

so i had to spend the next 30 minutes trying hacks to the iwi driver and rebooting because it kept getting a "fatal firmware error" that would render the card useless. by the time i had it working and associating to the ap, most of my paid 1 hour was up. i was able to check my e-mail and that was about it.

a while later we got ready and had breakfast in the lobby. i had cocoa crispies and a giant plate of eggs.

afterwards we registered for opencon and then listened to some talks. claudio talked about recent network changes in the kernel like multiple routing tables and stuff. marc balmer talked about integration of gps and time signal stations into ntpd, and then jonathan gray gave an overview of the structure of writing drivers. then we broke for lunch back up in the lobby.

the third course during lunch was apple pie and i think it was better than any apple pie i've had in america.

after lunch, michele marchetto talked about openripd and reyk gave an overview of the new ipsec tools that replaced the complicated isakmpd.conf stuff.

there was a coffee break afterwards but i was really tired from being up at 3:00 so i went to sleep in our room and dave wandered around.

at 19:00 everyone met in the lobby and we took a bus to a restaurant for food and beer for 10 years of openbsd, but as wim said it's really been 11 (10 on cd). i had a pizza with cheese and "sausages" and some weiss bier.
