greetings from italia.
dave picked me up this morning (i guess that was thursday) and we went to ihop for breakfast, then eventually off to the airport. dave got a speeding ticket on the way and we got there at about 12:00 for our 13:00 flight, which luckily was already delayed enough to get us re-routed. the delta lady at the counter booked us new flights on alitalia from chicago to milan, and then from milan to venice, instead of our original route of chicago to atlanta to venice.
we waited a few hours for our flight and then set off for a bumpy 8-hour ride to milan. the flight didn't really seem that long; we got two meals and i slept in between playing wolfenstein on my laptop and reading.
once we arrived at the milan airport, we stood in the long line for security until someone opened up the gate right behind us and started telling everyone to go to another security checkpoint that just opened and was empty. we went through security and then walked through the giant airport past all of the shops. our connecting flight to venice wasn't on the monitors and our boarding passes just said "gate A" even though there were like 30 "A" gates so we were a bit worried. eventually "venezia" popped up and we headed to our gate. we took a shuttle out to the plane and boarded for venice.
an hour later we had landed, dave found his baggage and we converted some dollars to euros and were rather disappointed at how few euros we got back. we took a taxi over to the hotel, checked in, and then promptly crashed and fell asleep.
it's now 19:32 according to the clock on the tv and i just woke up. dave is trying to figure out the coffee machine and the wireless internet here is not free. dave paid 2 euros to use it and said the signal keeps going in and out.
