i was finally able to build a working version of gaim with perl support on openbsd, and was thus able to quickly write a proper meow plugin for it aptly named meow-gaim.
now with gaim sending instant message notifications and imapbiff notifying me of new e-mail, i have pretty much everything i used growl for on mac os x. i'd write a quick xmms plugin to notify me when new tracks are played but i still use itunes on my imac for all of my music playing.

What window manager do you use?
it is aewm 1.3.9 (and aedesk and aepanel) with a lot of patches to change things the way i like them.
I was ratpoison user for about a 2 years, but understand that I'm not satisfied with it anymore. Now looking for some new lite WM.
By the way, as iTunes user too, I so missed it on unix and couple days back I found the QuodLibet :
http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet/ .
It has several of "right" features from iTunes. Its scriptable as hell also.
