i got pulled over today for speeding and it was kind of funny. you see, i live in crystal lake, and i have to drive through the tiny "town" of lakewood which has a population of like 5 and they have 3 squad cars (i have to drive past their police station every day).

so i'm accelerating briskly down huntley road because i'm late for the car show and as i pass a side street, my v1 goes nuts and then quiets down right away so i knew i got tagged. sure enough, as i'm watching the rear-view mirror i see a cop pull out onto the street so i yanked up on the e-brake (to slow down without activating the brake lights, you know) and he comes flying up behind me. now, he doesn't have his lights on so i'm supposed to pretend that he's not about to pull me over, but i know he's about to. he flips his lights on and i pull onto a side street halfway into the gravel that is between some guy's sideyard and the road.

the cop comes up and just looks at me with disgust and says "license and registration" (what, no chit chat?) so i oblige and hand them over. he asks where i was going so fast and that i was doing "51 in a 30" (how convenient, 21 over puts me in the "21-30 mph over" fine bracket). he asks if the address on my drivers license is right and i say no, he asks if i've notified the state and i say "uh, i think so." he walks back to his car and i sit there waiting for him to practice his penmanship on a speeding ticket.

so while i'm sitting there, the guy whose property we're half-parked on comes out and starts yelling things at the cop. i kind of chuckle and he keeps yelling, "this isn't lakewood, this isn't your jurisdiction! this is crystal lake, get the hell out of here!" i look in my rear view mirror to see if the cop is going to say anything to him, but he continues writing.

the cop eventually figures out how to spell volkswagen or whatever the hell he was doing and comes back to my car. he gives me the envelope full of crap and my stuff, less 1 drivers license. as he's walking back to his car, the guy keeps yelling at him to get the hell off his property. i look in my side view mirror and the cop is just standing there by his car looking at the guy and after a few seconds goes, "this is a public parkway" and the guy yells back "the hell it is! get the hell out of here!" and the cop says "no, i think i'll just stay here radaring all day." way to be intimidated, officer.

anyway, i finally got to busse woods for the car show. a very good turnout; probably 40 cars. there were 4 classes: best audi, best shine, best classic audi, and best track setup. i entered figuring i had a shot at best track setup until shon entered her 964. ringer!

lots of food later, everyone voted for the winners of the 4 categories. i won the "best track setup" category and got a little trophy. they also held a raffle among the 4 category winners to win a free track day with cgi motorsports at gingerman. no such luck winning that, though.

i wish it was not so hot out.
