my oqo rma requested was "approved" so they e-mailed me the fedex shipping label to print out. it was overnighted today so they'll get it tomorrow morning and hopefully ship out a new one very soon.

there's a sticker on the back of the oqo unit that says the warranty will be voided if the sticker is broken from opening the unit. which makes sense, i guess, but that means that one can't physically access the hard drive without voiding the warranty. i only had my oqo for one day but if i had been using it for months and had important data on the hard drive, i would have had no way of retrieving it prior to shipping it to oqo when it broke. if they shipped me back a refurbished unit, i'd have lost all of my data on the hard drive. the unit won't boot, so i can't copy the data to another computer over the network. i can't take the hard drive out to put it in another computer because that would void the warranty. i wonder if oqo transfers the old hard drive into the refurbished unit...
