i got my allstate auto insurance bill today and just happened to be looking over the paperwork that came with it.
there were a bunch of changes they tacked onto the policy and under the "exclusions - what is not covered" section for "protection against loss to the auto" as well as the protection for injury, death, etc., is the following:
- racing contest,
- speed contest, or
- use of an auto at a track or course designed or used for racing or high performance driving, or in practice or preparation for any contest or use of this type
i can understand the exclusion for racing, and maybe even one against "high performance driving" events, but to specifically exclude incidents that happen in an "auto at a track or course designed or used for racing"? even if i'm leisurely touring around a track by myself, just the fact that it's on a surface that was "designed or used for racing" would mean no coverage.
i always had the notion in my head that since the events i went to were touted as "driver safety schools" or even "high performance driving events" and that they specifically stressed that they were not races, that any type of collision at them would be covered under insurance. but perhaps not...
