from a comment in a k5 article about advice to teenagers:
- You will not live this life to the fullest as you will only use it to prepare for the next life which does not exist.
- You will blame deities or fate for all your problems and give them credit for all your triumphs. Your life will be plagued with problems you do not solve because you blame them on non-existent outside forces, and your self worth will be nil as you credit all your accomplishments to the same."
and that is why i am an atheist. my accomplishments are mine, and my fuck-ups are mine. i think that basic principle is easier to live by than trying to do things that aren't logical just to appease a mythical fictitious character. it makes me accomplish more and fuck up less. decisions are easier made, i just do what's logical instead of wasting time trying to decipher what some (usually contradictory) ancient book that has no bearing on the current situation is mandating.
as i sat in the dentist's chair today, i was forced to watch the news on tv showing thousands of sheep at the vatican anxiously awaiting their new leader to be elected for them. completely lost and without direction, the lemmings were suddenly put at ease as the decision came and they were able to stop thinking for themselves. i wonder what crazy ideas were thought up in the past 2 weeks.
